Osvaldo Casanova

born in 1967, lives in Imponzo di Tolmezzo (UD), Italy.

Osvaldo Casanova began to carve his first masks at the age of 20 in Sappada, where he grew up and became familiar with this art, following local carvers’ example. As a carver and painter, he showed great ability. Not only does Osvaldo Casanova follow the traditional “Rollate” patterns to carve his own masks, but he also experiences new artistic expressions, also inspired by life in Carnia.

He is a co-founder of the Association of the “Mascherai Alpini”.

He especially uses Lime tree and Swiss Pine wood for his masks.
